Except a man have faith he cannot please God. (Heb 11:6) It is impossible to please him without it, so what is Faith? This very intrinsic and necessary quality that without it, we know that we place ourselves in a dangerous position of alienation from God’s very presence. Heb 10:38 if we draw back or give up, then His soul will have no pleasure in us. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.(Heb 11:1) But faith is not blind in the sense that, by our own egos and strength, we might please him; but rather it is a faith that comes from through hearing, reading, meditating and praying over His word, Hence it comes from revelation from the Spirit of God into our very own spirit. Rom 10:17 faith comes by hearing the word of God and we know that it is more than words for in the Psalms 40:7 He tells us, that He comes in the scroll of the book, for it is written about him. The scriptures are impregnated with his Spirit, and like a perfume that infuses itself about a room; God infuses Himself into our very own souls, that we might have fellowship with Him. And because faith comes by hearing the word of God, we can either accept it or deny it; so for a person to truly receive faith, they must simply believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and this revelation can only come by the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Somesay that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 16:13-17.
